Twilight passed the $150 million mark, the magic number director Catherine Hardwicke had said would ensure the sequel. Summit announced a sequel much earlier, but since then Hardwicke stepped aside. Over the weekend, Chris Weitz (2007's The Golden Compass) was announced as the director for the second installment, New Moon, expected in late 2009 or early 2010.
