'New Moon' Sets Record For Advance-Ticket Sales

HOLLYWOOD -- The latest installment of the Twilight film franchise, "New Moon," has set a record for advance ticket sales, it was reported Sunday.

The vampire film accounted for 86 percent of Fandango's online ticket sales over the weekend and is sold-out for its first nationwide showings at midnight Thursday, the ticket-agency reports. "New Moon" is the record-holder for advance-ticket sales at Fandango and has jumped ahead of the previous pre-sales, box-office king, " Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," according to the ticket-seller.

To meet the demand, some theater owners are adding showings of the Twilight chapter. Fans camped out in Westwood over the weekend in order vie for a chance to see a Monday premier.

The rest of the nation gets its chance to view "New Moon" shorty after 12 a.m. on Friday when the film will roll.

The brisk sales bode well for the holiday season which, outside the summer season, accounts for a hefty slice of the Los Angeles-based movie industry's box-office receipts.
